A woman in Pennsylvania really wants to get a jacket that she donated to charity back. Why? Because after donating it, she remembered there was a $2.5 million lottery ticket inside one of the pockets.

Mildred Simoneriluto, 76, tells Action News 4 in Pittsburgh, “I was stupefied. There are no words for it, there’s no expression. How can I get it back?”

She says she accidentally left the winning lottery ticket in the pocket of a jacket that she donated along with some other clothing to Vietnam Veterans of America. It was only after the drawing pulled the numbers she had chosen that she says she remembered having put the ticket in the jacket pocket.

Simoneriluto claims she bought the winning Cash 5 lottery ticket last May at the Shop n’ Save in Murrysville, Penn. The ticket, she says, has the winning numbers for that day’s drawing – 14, 22, 33, 35, 38 – but it expires on May 8th.

Unfortunately for her, Vietnam Veterans of America says donated clothing gets distributed all over the world so there is no way of tracking the jacket. The Pennsylvania Lottery also told Simoneriluto that she can’t claim the $2.5 million prize unless she possesses the actual ticket.

“What else can I do?” Simoneriluto said. “Cry out loud and hope that something will happen positive on my end?”

It will certainly be interesting to see if the person who now possesses the winning lottery ticket will return it, try to cash it, or if they just threw it away without realizing what it is worth.

Who knows? Maybe Mildred Simoneriluto will get lucky and her winning ticket will turn up. In October of 2023, Khalil Soussa of Medford, Mass. forgot he had purchased a lottery ticket and lost it. That ticket ended up being worth $1 million. Thankfully for him, his house cleaner found the ticket in a vase months later and he was able to claim his prize.
