The 2025 World Championship Turkey Calling Contest was held last weekend in Mobile, Alabama with a judge panel made up of former world champions. This event dates back to 1940 when the first event was held inside the Battle House Hotel when Mr. Fred T. Stimpson became the first world champion of turkey calling.

Flash forward 85 years and the technology behind turkey calling has changed some over the years but the gobbling remains the same. And the competition was as fierce as it has ever been.

I came across a clip from the 2025 World Championship Turkey Calling Contest that was posted by one Mr. Tristen Hargreaves on TikTok. He is fixture on the turkey calling competition circuit and sponsored by Power Calls. Hargreaves took 3rd place in the Intermediate competition at this year’s world championships:

But it’s not the 3rd place plaque you came to see, is it? I said this video of the World Championship Gobble is the most captivating thing you’ll see today and I’m not wrong (I think? I guess that’s pretty subjective). His video has exploded in popularity with 2.3 million views and counting on TikTok. The video is also on Instagram for those who can’t see TikTok on their devices:

Seeing that video, of course, sent me down the rabbit hole of his other videos. This one carries the caption ‘scattering the flock’ across the video and Hargreaves says this was “the funniest thing I have witnessed at a contest other than JR Lanum acting like a cow onstage.”

By far the funniest comment I’ve seen on any of his videos was from someone who wrote “Dude chill… my girl is on this app.” The obvious implication being that being a world championship caliber turkey caller and producing gobbles like that reaches a level of aura previously unthinkable by people like myself.

Obviously, this hobby goes hand-in-hand with hunting and bird hunting specifically. So this wouldn’t be a hobby for everyone, necessarily. But it would be hilarious if an angry vegan made it their life’s mission to dominate the sport of turkey calling just to compete against people they don’t like. I’m a meat eater myself, obviously, but I do love to see someone get really good at something strictly out of spite.
