Keemster “dead” began trending online after the social media star faked his death as part of an April Fool’s Day prank

On Monday, April 1, 2024, the DramaAlert X account, @DramaAlert, shared a message saying that Keemstar died of “complications from a pulmonary embolism.”

“It is with deep sorrow that we share the news of Keemstar’s passing,” the post began.

“He peacefully departed last night in his sleep, succumbing to complications from a pulmonary embolism. Our hearts ache for his family and friends as they navigate this profound loss,” it continued.

“In light of Keemstar’s passing, the DramaAlert news team will be temporarily dissolving as we take time to mourn and restructure. We appreciate your understanding during this challenging period.

“Keemstar was a pioneering figure in online media, known for his dedication to reporting news and fostering dialogue within the community. Keemstar’s impact will be felt far and wide, and his legacy will endure through the countless lives he touched. Keemstar’s legacy lives on through his daughter Mia.”

It then followed up with another post that said, “A Celebration of Life event will be held in Buffalo, NY to commemorate the legacy and impact of Daniel ‘Keemstar’ Keem later this week.

“Details will be announced soon.”

That same day, Keemstar revealed his death was a hoax, posting a selfie to X in which he gave a thumbs up and wrote, “Hope everyone had a fun April Fools. I’ve rejoined team alive.”

On Tuesday, April 2, the DramaAlert X account also revealed it was a prank with a post that said, “APRIL FOOLS!”

Who is YouTuber Keemstar?

Keemstar — whose real name is Daniel M. Keem — was born in 1982 in Buffalo, New York.

He is a YouTuber, podcaster, and Twitch streamer who is well-known for hosting the online entertainment news show, DramaAlert.

The program’s YouTube channel, @DramaAlert, has over 5.4 million subscribers.

He also has 2.6 million followers on his X account, @KEEMSTAR, and 194,000 followers on his Instagram page, @keemstar.

Many fans have criticized Keemstar’s April Fool’s Day prank and death hoax.
