PELOTON became a mainstream hit in 2020 when gyms nationwide were forced to close their doors, but the company has since struggled to maintain its popularity.
The latest departure at the exercise and media company is none other than Kendall Toole, who became a household name after joining Peloton’s team of cycling instructors-turned-influencers in June 2019.
Who is Kendall Toole?
Kendall Toole is an influencer, social media personality, mental health advocate, and a former Peloton instructor.
Toole was raised in Santa Clarita, California, and graduated from the University of Southern California with a degree in Cinema, Media Studies, and Business.
While at USC, she was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and served as an athletic spirit leader, according to her LinkedIn.
Toole previously interned at Kelsey Edward Photography and GetLifted Film Co. before becoming a Production Assistant at Lionsgate and Pony Show Entertainment.
In 2015, she joined Snap Inc., known for the popular social media app, Snapchat, as a Content Analyst, and worked her way up to a Story Editor and On-Site Producer.
In 2018, she became a Founding LA Trainer at Rumble Boxing, serving the Los Angeles area.
Toole joined Peloton in June 2019 as a Cycling Instructor and has since also led strength training and boxing workouts on the platform.
Toole has continuously grown her social media followings over the last few years and has over 340,000 followers on TikTok and nearly 1 million followers on Instagram.
She’s also a member of the Lululemon ambassador team, though it’s unclear if her contract will expire once she officially leaves her role at Peloton.
On March 8, 2024, PeloBuddy announced that Toole had signed with WME (William Morris Endeavor), a talent and media agency.
When she’s not cycling or working out, Toole says “rock ‘n’ roll seeps through my soul, especially the classics,” so she’s often “listening to vinyl or scrounging up tickets to a show,” as reported by Peloton.
When did Kendall Toole leave Peloton?
On Thursday, June 13, 2024, Kendall Toole announced that she was leaving Peloton, sharing the news in an Instagram Reel.
“It’s with great consideration and many, many, many hours of reflection, but I’m choosing to close my chapter at Peloton,” Toole said, speaking directly towards the camera.
“To the community who have become my friend and family and have stayed in the fight with me, I cannot thank you enough,” she said.
“It’s been an absolute honor, especially to every single one of you Knockouts and NKO crew members for all of the fun and craziness and joy,” she added.
In addition to cycling classes, Toole leads boxing and strength workouts on Peloton’s digital platform.
“Thank you for riding with me, for sweating with me, for crying with me, for growing and evolving with me, and every single way we’ve committed to showing up for ourselves so we can show up for those around us in our life,” Toole said.
“And that kind of commitment to ourselves is truly spectacular,” she added.
“Thank you for letting me into your homes, into your hearts, and in many times — I hope — into the shadowy parts of your mind where sometimes things can get a little tough,” she said, getting emotional.
“I am eternally grateful and moved by your support through all these years, and for your willingness for us all to be vulnerable together.”
“Thank you Peloton,” she said, adding “I will forever be grateful for this life experience and transformation and personal growth that this has been for me.”
“Before we get too emotional, I don’t want you to think I’m saying goodbye. I’m not, this is just a shift,” Toole said.
Toole’s last class at Peloton will be on Saturday, June 29, 2024, according to PeloBuddy.
Peloton’s social media also confirmed her classes will remain available to watch on-demand.
“Yes, Kendall’s classes will continue to be available on-demand, barring our normal edits to the library,” they wrote.
“I’ll be continuing to check in on social media and far beyond. This is more of a ‘I’ll see you on the next chapter’ kind of energy.”
“So, in the words of my dad, as many of you know, I wanna leave you with this,” she said, smiling.
“They can knock you down, but they can never knock you out.”
“Stay tuned for what’s next and I will see you in the next adventure, she said, adding: “Love you.”
While the news shocked many Peloton riders and fans, Toole did foreshadow the news earlier this month with a cryptic Instagram post, where she teased that big news was coming on June 13.
“shedding a skin and removing an armour that no longer serves; you’re raw for a while. Tender for a time,” she captioned the black-and-white post.
“Waiting til the wind of all that change doesn’t burn, eyes to stop watering at all the turns. Exhausted. Relentless.”
“But, don’t ever forget: tender is transformed. A new thing. The next level. Uncharted waters & uninked pages.”
“Wholeheartedly, unapologetically, enthusiastically, brand new.”
“61324,” she added, alongside a blue butterfly emoji.
