As The White Lotus heads into its season two finale, fan theories about who the dead bodies seen (or rather, referenced) in the premiere episode belong to have been rampant, with one character, in particular, seemingly getting most of the attention, and that’s Jennifer Coolidge’s Tanya.
Editor’s Note: This article will contain spoilers for “Abductions” — Season 2, Episode 6 of The White Lotus
As pointed out by an eagle-eyed fan on Twitter, the dress that Tanya is wearing is eerily similar, if not virtually identical to the one worn by the manikin at The Godfather museum/restaurant from earlier this season. That woman, by the way, dies via explosion.
This, of course, isn’t the only sign that Tanya could find herself in trouble in the finale: we also brought you the theory that there’s a camera set up in the bedroom where she’s being seduced by the Italian “drug dealer” as a means to end her marriage to Greg, whether it be through death or divorce, and therefore get her money.
Still, despite this — and, honestly, I’m preparing to eat my words on this one — I just don’t think that Tanya winds up being one of the deaths that were teased in the first episode. Something about Tanya feels cartoonish, wherein she has the Wile Coyote ability to get run over a car only to then peel herself off the road.
And killing a character like that — the *only* character (and Greg, too) that returned from Season 1 — would just feel… odd. Bringing Tanya and therefore Jennifer Coolidge back just to kill her weirdly feels cheap as if they’re hoping to combine the novelty of her return with the shock of her death.
The season two finale of The White Lotus will hit HBO and HBO Max on Sunday, December 11. The entire first season and the first six episodes of season two are currently streaming.
