What is SNL50 and how to watch the anniversary celebration events

Saturday Night Live sure knows how to throw a party, and this one has been 50 years in the making.

SNL50: The Anniversary Celebration will air on Sunday, February 16. The anniversary bash will take viewers down memory lane through a three-hour event that will commemorate everything that made the NBC variety show such a pop culture staple, and of course, it’ll feature tons of special celebrity guests.

How to watch

SNL50: The Anniversary Celebration will air live at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT Sunday on NBC and Peacock. 

Red carpet coverage will being at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT on NBC, with Saturday Night Live alum Leslie Jones, Sunday TODAY host Willie Geist, and comedian Matt Rogers interviewing some of the biggest stars as they gear up for the special.

Amelia Dimoldenberg, the host of the viral Chicken Shop Date show, will be the correspondent for the SNL50: The Red Carpet livestream, which will be available on all SNL social and digital platforms, including YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, X and TikTok.

Which SNL alums will be there?

It should come as no surprise that this huge celebration will bring together a blend of current cast members and legendary alumni from cast’s past.

Chevy Chase, Garrett Morris, Jane Curtin and Laraine Newman — four of the surviving original cast members from 1975— are expected to return. They will be joined by other alums, including: Adam Sandler, Amy Poehler, Andy Samberg, Chris Rock, Eddie Murphy, Fred Armisen, Jason Sudeikis, Jimmy Fallon, Kate McKinnon, Kenan Thompson, Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Molly Shannon, Pete Davidson, Seth Meyers, Tina Fey, Tracy Morgan, Will Ferrell, and Will Forte.

Current cast members will also be part of the fun, with appearances from Michael Che, Mikey Day, Andrew Dismukes, Chloe Fineman, Heidi Gardner, Marcello Hernández, James Austin Johnson, Colin Jost, Michael Longfellow, Ego Nwodim, Sarah Sherman, Kenan Thompson, Devon Walker, and Bowen Yang.

Celebrity appearances

A list of Hollywood’s biggest names will also join the celebration, making the party that much more special.

Among the confirmed celebrities are: Adam Driver, Ayo Edebiri, Bad Bunny, Dave Chappelle, John Mulaney, Kim Kardashian, Martin Short, Miley Cyrus, Paul McCartney, Paul Simon, Pedro Pascal, Peyton Manning, Quinta Brunson, Robert De Niro, Sabrina Carpenter, Scarlett Johansson, Steve Martin, Tom Hanks, and Woody Harrelson.

Of course, Saturday Night Live is known for surprise guest appearances, so it’s safe to say some big stars not on the list will likely show up to the shindig. 

On Peacock, fans can also stream documentaries that explore the show’s cultural influence. SNL50: Beyond Saturday Night takes a look at the show’s five-decade run in a four-part series executive produced by Academy and Emmy Award winner Morgan Neville. The special features interviews with more than 60 contributors to SNL, offering behind-the-scenes insights into its evolution and its enduring legacy in comedy and television.
