Wendy Williams’ Ex Goes To Court To Enforce Spousal Support Payments

Wendy Williams' Ex-Husband Goes To Court To Enforce Spousal Support Payments

Former talk show host Wendy Williams‘ ex-husband, Kevin Hunter, is seeking the court’s help to collect the support checks he was promised after their divorce.

In his petition, he claimed that the payments had been paused for nearly two years, around the time the former TV host was placed under legal guardianship.

He also said that Williams’ team has not been forthcoming in helping to resolve the issue and that the absence of the funds has greatly affected him.

According to court documents, Williams’ ex-husband Hunter filed a lawsuit, requesting assistance in collecting support checks from the retired talk show host.

In the filing addressed to the judge who oversaw their divorce, Hunter highlighted that he was married to Williams from November 1999 to January 2020 and that they share a son, Kevin Jr, who is “now emancipated and is a full-time student at Barry University in Florida.”

Hunter emphasized in his petition that Williams agreed to provide him with a “severance pay” under the “Matrimonial Settlement Agreement.” He explained that he hadn’t received it since January 2022 due to Williams’s court-ordered guardianship.

Stressing the financial strain caused by the lack of payments, Hunter said: “This is an emergent matter because I rely on the severance pay for my living expenses, and having been without this income for twenty-three months has affected me greatly.”

“Therefore, I respectfully request that the Court require [Wendy] to immediately pay all severance payments which may be due and owing at the time of this Court’s Order,” he added, according to The Sun.

Further in his petition, Hunter alleged that Williams violated a court order by withholding his severance payments, prompting him to request her compliance in providing him with a portion of her SAG-AFTRA retirement plan.

The TV producer claimed that despite attempting to resolve the matter with Williams’ team since October 2021, Williams’ guardian, Sabrina Morrisey, initially agreed to provide bank statements but later limited the disclosure.

Faced with uncooperative behavior, Hunter asserted that he had “no choice but to file this motion in this matter.”

“I would not have had to file this motion if [Williams] did not stop my severance payments and if the [she] would have signed the Qualified Domestic Relations Order for the SAG-AFTRA Retirement Plan,” he added.

Williams and Hunter’s marriage came to a halt five years ago when the former talk show host filed for divorce.

At the time, both Williams and Hunter noted that their relationship should have ended much earlier.

Hunter told The Westside Gazette in December 2022: “Truth be told, we should’ve got a divorce ten years earlier. Even our son, Kevin, said that to us.”

Later, Williams explained that despite incidences of infidelity throughout their marriage, it was Hunter’s affair with entrepreneur Sharina Hudson and their “love child” that ultimately led to their split.

Speaking to The New York Times Magazine about the child, Williams said that she knew she could no longer stay with him.

“Kevin had a major indiscretion that he will have to deal with for the rest of his life. An indiscretion that I will not deal with,” she explained.

She emphasized her inability to forgive this particular act by her ex-husband, adding: “I never thought that I would be in this position. I’m a very forgiving person, but there’s one thing that I could never be a part of, and that one thing happened.”

Who Is Wendy Williams’ Legal Guardian?

It’s been almost two years since Williams was put under the care of a court-appointed legal guardian, as she was deemed susceptible to financial exploitation due to her numerous cognitive issues and health problems.

The identity of her legal guardian wasn’t public at the time, but she was recently identified as Sabrina Morrisey. It came to light after the New York-based lawyer filed a lawsuit against Lifetime’s parent company, A&E Television Networks, seeking to halt the release of the former TV host’s documentary.

Morrisey has recently received backlash for allegedly starving Williams and restricting her access to her family.

She is reportedly the only one with unfettered access to the former TV host. Willaims is currently residing in a private facility to deal with her cognitive issues after she had an episode sometime in April last year.
