Watch Jake Gyllenhaal Sing Celine Dion in ‘SNL’ Opening Monologue

Jake Gyllenhaal is back on hosting duty.

More than 15 years after making his Saturday Night Live debut, the 41-year-old actor returned to studio 8H to serve as this week’s guest host. The episode aired fresh off the premiere of Michael Bay’s Ambulance, an action-thriller starring Gyllenhaal and Emmy-winner Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.

Gyllenhaal spoke about his 2007 appearance in his opening monologue. He even covered Celine Dion’s “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now.”

Though this week’s episode marked his second-time hosting since 2007, Gyllenhaal has made a number of SNL cameos over the past decade; most recently, the John Mulaney-hosted episode back in March 2020, when he played the “guy who travels in pajamas” during a musical-themed sketch set in LaGuardia Airport.

Days before the SNL broadcast, Gyllenhaal caught up with NBC New York’s Adam Kuperstein to discuss his fondness for the iconic sketch show.

“I just love this environment. I love the pace of it, I love how mad it can be, and I’m just so excited,” Gyllenhaal said, before touching on his new Ambulance flick. “It’s made for the theaters. It’s made to go see in the theaters. You know, the sound, the visuals, the roller coaster ride of what it is.”
