Who was Larry ‘The Barfly’ on The Simpsons?

Larry, aka “The Barfly” was a minor character on the show who first appeared in 1989 when season one premiered.

He regularly appeared enjoying a pint in scenes set at the watering hole.

Although he was only given a few lines scattered throughout the seasons his absence will be sorely missed.

In the episode Cremains the Day, which aired over the weekend, Larry the Barfly dropped dead in Moe’s Tavern.

Longtime drinking buddies Homer, Lenny and Carl, as well as Moe, attended Larry’s funeral.

Despite the hours spent together in Moe’s Tavern, it became clear they did not share a bond with the character with Homer asking: “Is it possible we’re terrible people?”

What has The Simpsons producers said about Larry’s death?

Simpson’s producers have spoken to TMZ following the shock episode.

The co-executive producer of the sitcom, Tim Long, told the outlet the creative team intended for viewers to be hit hard by the death.

Long says it doesn’t matter how little of a part Larry played because characters on the show don’t die often so it’s a big deal when they do.

He adds he’s sorry to those fans upset about the sad episode but is pleased that fans seemed to take it as hard as Homer and the gang did as it shows how the show is still popular.

That said, Long’s telling people to calm down cause it’s not like they killed off a major character like Barney or Moe.
