The Matrix was one of the most influential sci-fi films ever made. And now, you can own a piece of it to display. Thanks to IGN, we’ve learned that The Matrix directors Lana and Lilly Wachowski are auctioning off several items from their personal collection. And not only from The Matrix, but also Cloud Atlas, Sense8, and Jupiter Ascending too. All proceeds go to the Protect & Defend Trans Youth Fund, a charity now more important than ever. In our best Keanu voice, we utter a collective “whoa.”
To go through each individual item of the Enter the Matrix: The Wachowski Collection, you can see a preview of the collection before it goes live on May 12. You can also download a PDF of the entire catalog. The folks at Potter & Potter Auctions are hosting this very special auction. There are 170 lots in total. So that is quite a lot to sort through. But there are some true gems from over twenty years of films among them. You can check out some examples right here:
Via Twitter, Lilly Wachowski shared, “So me and Lana have been doing some spring cleaning at our Raiders of the Lost Ark warehouse and have happily decided to pass on some of the best treasures we’ve been collecting over the years! No Ark of the Covenants, but some pretty major and magical artifacts!”
Actually, the golden dog statue from Jupiter Ascending and artifacts from Cloud Atlas actually do look like something Dr. Jones might rob from a tomb. Like Indy, we all agree these belong in a museum. Maybe some rich fan will gobble these up, and open the first-ever Wachowski exhibit. Stranger things have happened, after all. Hopefully, they go somewhere fans will have access to. And not just on a mantlepiece, never seen by any fans.
Of course, of all their films, The Matrix and its sequels remain the most iconic. So fans will be happy to know that among the auction items from that franchise are several maquettes. Among them are the Armored Personnel Unit from The Matrix Reloaded, as well as the Nebuchadnezzar designation plate. From the original film, there are robotic Sentinel drone maquettes (no doubt inspired by the X-Men villains). Even Neo’s old school flip phone shows up. Not to mention, several production concept blueprints. There’s even a pair of Trinity models from her iconic introduction in the first film. We just hope Speed Racer gets some love at the Wachowskis’ auction too.
Enter the Matrix: The Wachowski Collection begins on May 12, 2022.
