Actor Tyler Hynes chatted about starring in the Hallmark movie “Shifting Gears,” which will premiere on Saturday, March 23rd.

Yan-Kay Crystal Lowe (“Signed, Sealed, Delivered”) makes her directorial debut with this project. Lowe directed the film from a screenplay by Matt Marx. “The script had some really nice car analogies,” he noted.

Hynes stars opposite Katherine “Kat” Barrell. “The experience filming this movie was fantastic,” Hynes admitted. “Everybody was very lovely. We had a great group of people.”

“Crystal made her directorial debut with such enthusiastic energy, she was very supportive of the actors. After watching it, one could never tell that this was Crystal’s first movie because it was so well done,” he said.

“We shot it in Ottawa, and everybody was lovely and they worked as hard as they could to make it the best they possibly could. It was a really fun dynamic and a fun environment to be around. Everybody just dove right in and it was a blast,” he elaborated.

The synopsis is: After female mechanic Jess (played by Kat Barrell) reluctantly agrees to participate in a car restoration show, she is shocked to learn that her former boyfriend, Luke (Tyler Hynes), is her main competitor. Will sparks reignite?

Working with Kat Barrell

On working with Kat, he said, “Kat was lovely. She is a director in her own right and she understands the process quite well. It was a lovely asset to have all three of us doing what we can to make the best of the days that we had. Kat is an incredible talent.”

Playing Luke

On playing his character, Luke, Hynes said with a sweet laugh, “I liked his ‘daddy issues.’ I liked the fact that he had issues with his father, and as we know, daddy issues are the center of all relationship problems. We killed two birds with one stone in this movie.”

For his fans and viewers, Hynes remarked about “Shifting Gears,” “I hope the fans enjoy the fun, the romance, and the competition. This movie stands on its own.”
