In case you hadn’t noticed, nature is wild. Anytime you set foot outside your home there is a chance that you are going to see something you didn’t expect to encounter.

One of those “somethings” that most people hope to never encounter out in nature is a snake.

After all, no one wants to come face to face with, say, a Burmese python or a spitting cobra or any type of snake playing “snake” on a brick wall.

We don’t want to see them in planes, in a swimming pool, or under our couch.

However, should a couple of black mambas over 8 feet in length happen to slither into our backyard where there is some glass separating us from these evil creatures, well, yeah, we’ll break out our phones and take a video.

Such was the case for Duncan Slabbert and another man, Lelo Chili, in South Africa, recently.

The two snakes, one weighing approximately 660 pounds, according to Nick Evans, a snake rescuer in Queensburgh, fought for over 30 minutes in Chili’s backyard last week.

“These were two males wrestling over a female. This is typical behavior of this time of year, as winter is the mating season,” Evans wrote on Facebook.

Evans added, “Male mambas don’t bite each other. They wrestle till one surrenders.

“In this case, Duncan explained how the slightly larger specimen would pull the smaller one back ever so slightly, with the bodies wrapped up as you can see below. The larger mamba would then try and pin the smaller mambas neck down on the ground, holding it there for a second or two. Duncan witnessed this behavior about three times, before the smaller one surrendered, and started to move off.”

After the fight, Slabbert was able to capture both snakes as “the residents weren’t too happy to have the mambas in the garden.”

“Fortunately the mambas are exhausted after the battle, and so even though one tries escaping while the other is being caught, a snake-catcher can catch up to the second,” Evans explained.

Nature, man… she crazy.
