After infamously starring in the romance competition reality series Catching Kelce, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is set to return to reality TV, albeit in a slightly different genre: game show hosting.
According to reports, the 34-year-old future Hall of Famer will host a reboot of the competition series Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader? on Amazon Prime Video.
The reboot will also feature celebrity contestants instead of children, per Variety.
“There are some questions, according to the people familiar with discussions, about how much of a commitment Kelce could make to the venture if he continues playing football.”
“The new version of the program, originally hosted by comedian Jeff Foxworthy and appearing on Fox’s broadcast network, would rely on celebrity guests rather than children, according to these people.” [via Variety]
Unsurprisingly, the report also states that the producers of the series are “no doubt” hoping to leverage the Super Bowl champion’s high-profile relationship with pop star Taylor Swift to attract viewers.
Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader? premiered on Fox in 2007 and was hosted by standup comedian Jeff Foxworthy.
The series originally ran for three seasons from 2007 to 2009 before returning for a fourth season in 2015. Then, in 2019, John Cena hosted a rebooted version that aired on Nickelodeon.
If the Kelce-led reboot of Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader? does come to fruition, it wouldn’t be the first time Kelce has been a TV star as he previously featured in the E! channel series Catching Kelce, which aired back in 2016 and is currently available to stream on Peacock.
Following the third Super Bowl win of his career with the Kansas City Chiefs, Kelce is currently vacationing and enjoying the offseason with Swift, as the pair have been stopped all over both the country and world together recently.
If Kelce does return to the NFL next season, which seems likely at this stage, it’ll be his 11th season in the league, all of which have been in Kansas City.
