Have you ever exhaustively planned a bucket list trip, one that you’ve been dreaming of for years, only to get there and realize that you’re surrounded by thousands and thousands of other people who did the exact same thing? Everyone knows how stunning the Amalfi Coast is and there are no hidden gems to be found in cities that have been around for thousands of years (looking at you, Rome).
Top 20 Summer Travel Destinations Of 2024
Nobody is better at tracking popularity and interest in web searches than Google. The rankings go Google at #1 and then every other flight tracker in the world is a mile behind because, well, Google’s probably tracking them too and tracking what they’re tracking while those trackers are trying to keep up with Google.
All of that is to say that Google Flights probably has the most reliable data possible when it comes to the top Summer travel destinations for 2024, and they’ve just shared the top 20 cities people are traveling to this Summer with ThePointsGuy. London comes in at #1 which isn’t surprising at all. Paris is #2 and they’ll be hosting the Summer Olympics. Also not a shocker, but the full list is interesting:

I mean this sincerely… Have people lost their dang minds? Who on god’s green earth is planning trips to Orlando, Las Vegas, Miami, or San Juan, Puerto Rico in the Summer???
It is a thousand degrees every day here in Florida during the Summer and the latest hurricane season forecast is out and it’s being called “explosive” and is expected to be so active they’re anticipating the first named storm before the season even officially begins. Please, as a born and raised Floridian, trust me when I saw you do NOT want to come anywhere near Florida between June 1st and November 15th, maybe even December 15h.
Also, hasn’t anyone else ever been to Las Vegas in the middle of the Summer and experienced heat so suffocating that it melted their flip-flops to the ground at a pool party? No? Just me?
HOW are THESE the top Summer travel destinations?
I see Cancun on the list at #6. Are people unaware that Cancun beaches are drowning in saragassum seaweed all Summer and are extremely unpleasant? I thought we were doing a good job at getting the word out on that. Apparently not.
Incredibly, there isn’t a single destination in Canada on that list. Canada got crushed last year with the wildfires but it’s typically a cool paradise in the Summer. How is Canada doing such a poor job at marketing themselves among the top Summer travel destinations? Also, where is Alaska on that list? What about Iceland? These are places that are absolute paradises in the Summer.
Florida’s great from mid-December through mid-March. That’s it. Stay away from here the rest of the year unless you’re cool with packing a bag containing a change of clothes anytime you step outside because it’s ungodly hot and the humidity hits you like a freight train.
