Scott Calvin is returning to our screens. This time, the small screen. Disney has just announced The Santa Clause, a new limited series for Disney+. And, of course, Tim Allen is returning to play the jolly Saint Nick first ensnared by the titular clause in the 1996 film. But while the trio of Tim Allen Santa Clause films featured Scott reluctantly accepting the role of Santa—and then nearly losing it!—in the upcoming series, he’s getting ready to step down. For good.

Yep, Scott Calvin is ready to retire. And now he’s looking for his replacement. Here’s the synopsis from Disney:

In the Disney+ series, Scott Calvin is on the brink of his 65th birthday and realizing that he can’t be Santa forever. He’s starting to lose a step in his Santa duties, and more importantly, he’s got a family who could benefit from a life in the normal world, especially his two kids who have grown up at the Pole. With a lot of elves, children, and family to please, Scott sets out to find a suitable replacement Santa while preparing his family for a new adventure in a life south of the pole.

In addition to starring, Allen is executive producing the series. 30 Rock‘s Jack Burditt is executive producing and serving as showrunner. Kevin Hench, Richard Baker, and Rick Messina also serve as executive producers. The series begins production in March 2022. While it doesn’t say when the series will debut, with production ramping up soon, we definitely see it for Christmas 2023.

Deadline recently announced that Elizabeth Mitchell will also reprise her role as Carol, better known as Mrs. Claus. And we’re hoping to see even more familiar faces announced soon. The Santa Clause films also starred David Krumholtz, Judge Reinhold, Wendy Crewson, Eric Lloyd, and Liliana Mumy.

It’s the first new installment in the beloved franchise since 2006. Suffice to say, we’re pretty excited for Tim Allen’s Santa Clause to return.
