And that’s a wrap for Melissa O’Neil! In a new social media post The Rookie star shows off her fit figure in exercise clothes while shooting the last episode of her hit show. “Happy last day of shooting for @therookieabc !!! My parental units were ‘up in here’ and ‘up in there’ on set for the day! Swipe to see us mugging like total knobs at the end of the day on our way back to basecamp. Also. Peep my *ridiculous* and unconscious lip bite once I caught my dad flexing and apparently, reflexively joined in. I look crazy but I just had to put this up. 🤦🏻♀️😅🤣😂Thank you to everyone at work yesterday for being so nice to my parents! Keeping our fingers crossed for that pickup. And I hope you enjoy our next episode. @therookieabc is back next week!” she captioned the post. How does the star approach diet, fitness, and self-care? Here is everything you need to know about her lifestyle habits.
One of Melissa’s go-to self-care routines is taking a bath. On a recent trip to Find Sanctuary she took an outdoor bath. How can baths do your body and mind good? They have been linked to better sleep and even found helpful to minimize anxiety and depression. One recent study even found that they may even boast cardiovascular benefits.
Melissa is an avid hiker. She regularly shares photos of her climbs on social media. “Ambitiously attempted Manzanita Ridge via Mount Wilson Trail to break in some new @keen boots. Did not make it very far. 🥲🥹😂 Will absolutely return once I break in the boots a bit more on a trail with less of an incline. Love the boots – ankle hug just needs to open up a little. In any case, enjoy some snaps. I was totally consumed by all the water and beautiful native (and invasive!) plants that were just popping off with all their sweet flowers. The fragrance! Everything was exhaling and it was such a treat. Sublime weather for hiking in and around LA right now. Love climbing up into the mist!!! Let’s go outside!!” she captioned a recent post.
Melissa is a reader. Here she is laying in a hammock reading a book. One Harvard study published in Social Science & Medicine found that people who read books regularly had a 20% lower risk of dying over the next 12 years compared with people who weren’t readers or who read periodicals.
As a kid Melissa “did martial arts as well as sports,” which has helped with her craft. “I think for the most part when it comes to stunt fighting, having a real fighters’ background is a big asset, but what’s also important is, again, having a sense of body awareness and a spatial awareness of who you’re fighting against, so that everyone comes out of it safe as you work together to help tell the story,” she said.
Melissa is a longtime yogi. “Before filming began on the show, I started doing some physical training, but I already came into this job with some body awareness. I’ve been practicing yoga for some time,” she told SciFi and TV Talk. There is a laundry list of reasons to do yoga, explains Harvard Health. “Researchers found that people who practiced yoga for at least 30 minutes once a week for at least four years, gained less weight during middle adulthood,” they said. “People who were overweight actually lost weight. Overall, those who practiced yoga had lower body mass indexes (BMIs) compared with those who did not practice yoga. Researchers attributed this to mindfulness. Mindful eating can lead to a more positive relationship with food and eating.”
