As the world waits for a potential engagement of arguably its most famous pop culture couple, Taylor Swift is currently touring across Europe on her record-setting ‘Eras Tour’, currently in Lyon, France. Despite her boyfriend, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce being back in the States during these shows, she still found a way to work him into the show, even if it is mostly a happy accident.
Like every tour, Taylor Swift has a set list of songs that she plays in the same order every night. But, each individual show has two “surprise songs”, acoustic versions of songs that didn’t make her expansive three-hour set list featuring 46 of her biggest hits.
Sometimes, she’s even played piano mashups of two tracks that count as one surprise song, giving her the ability to technically include as many as four surprise tracks. That’s what she did on Sunday night in France, and one of the mash-ups was of her songs “Fifteen” and “You’re On Your Own, Kid”.
Fifteen is an ironic choice, considering these lyrics from the song first released in 2008, when Swift was 18-years-old.
“Well, in your life you’ll do things, greater than dating the boy on the football team”
Even Taylor Swift thought those lyrics were pretty funny, considering that she is, indeed, dating the boy on the football team in Travis Kelce. Take a look at her cracking up in this video. start at around the 2:20 mark, or listen to the whole thing if you want.
As I said, pretty ironic.
Of course, Taylor Swift has done much more than just date the boy on the football team. She’s elevated her pop superstardom into a stratosphere that may have only been previously occupied by Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and Michael Jackson. There’s no way she thought she would be that big at fifteen.
