The highly sought after Starbucks Holiday mugs from this past Christmas season have been recalled by Nestle after multiple people who purchased them suffered severe burns and one person suffered a cut.

Nestle USA is the manufacturer of the Starbucks-branded metallic mugs that had everyone scrambling last holiday season to buy one. In a press release, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission announced Nestle USA would be recalling ‘about 450,500’ of the Starbucks holiday mugs.

The recall says the primary defect leading to the recall was when the Starbucks holiday mugs are “microwaved or filled with extremely hot liquid” that the mugs can break from being overheated and potentially lead to “burn and laceration hazards.”

This massive recall was issued on March 21st after “12 incidents of the mugs overheating or breaking resulting in 10 injuries.” Of the incidents, nine included “severe burns/blisters on fingers or hands” and one was a cut finger. Out of the 12 incidents, only one required medical attention.

Nestle USA is offering a full refund as part of the recall that includes the 11oz and 16oz mugs that were sold in numerous holiday gift sets in 2023 including the Starbucks Holiday Gift Set with 2 Mugs, Starbucks Classic Hot Cocoa and Mug, Starbucks Peppermint and Classic Hot Cocoas and Mug, and Starbucks Holiday Blend Coffee and Mug.

These metallic holiday mugs *are still* listed on eBay for $30+. There are numerous listings. People went nuts for this year’s holiday mug release and now it appears to be blowing up in everybody’s faces…
