San Diego Comic-Con Log, stardate 07272024: Paramount+ and CBS Studios boldly traveled to Hall H at the year’s premier pop culture event. They arrived there with some big news about its many returning and upcoming Star Trek projects. That jam-packed panel included an early look at season three of Strange New Worlds. In addition to images and and the reveal that the latest member of the cast will play a character with ties to the original show, Paramount also shared a very funny clip from season three. It will make Vulcan enthusiasts very happy.
That is unless you are a half Vulcan/half human Star Trek icons.
This clip from Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is a total reversal of season two’s absolutely hilarious “Charades.” In that episode Spock had his Vulcan DNA briefly removed. His brief time being entirely human was a season highlight.
This time around the human crew of the Enterprise needs to become even more Vulcan than its “only half” Vulcan crew mate. That leads to a highly successful, highly efficient mission. But when the serum that should change them back doesn’t work, Spock’s left in his own personal hell.
While we can’t wait to see how that very storyline plays out, we’re even more intrigued by Paramount+’s casting news. The streamer announced Cillian O’Sullivan is joining the show as Dr. Roger Korby.
The character first appeared on the original Star Trek series in the episode “What Are Little Girls Made Of?” It introduced him (played by Michael Strong) as Nurse Chapel’s fiancee who’d been missing for years.
Strange New Worlds seems poised to show us how the two met and started seeing one another. Considering she is currently dating Spock at this point in the show, his arrival should add some personal drama to the show. Especially because O’Sullivan will appear as a series regular in season three.
His arrival could make dealing with his new fellow Vulcans seem easy for Spock by comparison.
