'Squid Game' Becomes First Non-English Show Nominated for Drama Series at Emmys 2022

Squid Game is making history.

On Tuesday (July 12), the hit Netflix series scored an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Drama series, becoming the first non-English show to be nominated in the category.

The show landed 14 total nominations at the 2022 Emmys, with star Lee Jung-jae also being recognized in the Outstanding Lead Actor category.

Squid Game currently stands as the most-watched Netflix original series of all time. The streamer officially renewed the series for a second season a month ago.

Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk also recently discussed what fans could expect from the new season earlier this year, teasing which characters would be returning for the upcoming episodes. There’s also a reality competition series spinoff in the works at Netflix, which will feature the largest lump sum cash prize for a TV show. Find out more here.
