Spotify will finally launch a high-fidelity audio tier later this year, according to a new report from Bloomberg.
Costing at least $5 more per month on top of current premium plans, Spotify will market Hi-Fi audio as an add-on for existing customers. In addition to better quality audio, the upgrade will offer subscribers “new tools for creating playlists and managing their song libraries.”
Back in 2021, competitors Apple Music and Amazon Music integrated lossless audio into their plans at no extra cost following Spotify’s official announcement that it would be introducing a Hi-Fi audio tier.
We’ll have to see how Spotify’s offering stacks up in quality with other streaming platforms, but it should at least appease Neil Young, who previously said the big green circle’s audio “sounds like a pixilated movie.” In the meantime, check out our guide to all the best music streaming services.
The news comes just a week after Spotify once again raised monthly prices by $1 to $11.99 per month for the Individual plan and $3 per month to $19.99 for the Family plan.
The streamer is currently in the midst of a particularly turbulent time. In May, the Mechanical Licensing Collective filed a lawsuit accusing Spotify of cheating songwriters out of $150 million in royalties by reclassifying some Premium services as bundles.
