Golf is an inherently expensive sport, and even if you try to cut costs by buying used clubs or playing at public courses, there’s really only so much you can do to stay on a budget if you’re hitting the links on a regular basis.
Of course, anyone who’s spent enough time rubbing shoulders with your standard members of the Country Club Crowd knows golf also attracts plenty of people who don’t really have to worry about checking their bank account balance, and many of them will spare no expense in their quest for the best experience possible.
For example, if you want to play a round of golf at Seminole Golf Club in Juno Beach, Florida, you either have to know a member or be willing to shell out the rumored $100,000 initiation fee that grants you the right to pay thousands of dollars each year to keep your membership in good standing.
Tom Brady decided to do exactly that when he joined Seminole shortly after signing with the Buccaneers in 2020, and earlier this week, he gave some boosters at his alma mater the chance to join him (and a very special guest) in Florida for a round that was up for grabs at an auction to benefit the University of Michigan’s “Champions Circle” NIL collective.
I think most people would pounce at the opportunity to play 18 holes with the man who is arguably the greatest quarterback of all time, but Brady opted to sweeten the pot by adding Wolverines football coach Jim Harbaugh into the mix to give bidders some extra incentive to secure the experience.
It appears that opportunity managed to attract plenty of interest, and when everything was said and done, the winner paid a grand total of $155,000 to spend the day with Brady and Harbaugh on the links.
According to Golf Digest, it appears that bid was placed by Michigan business school graduate Scott Stewart, who currently serves as a managing partner for Capitol Seniors Housing.
Based on the caption he posted on Instagram after winning, it seems like the round may actually be played at Michael Jordan’s wildly exclusive Grove XXIII in nearby Hobe Beach, but I have a feeling it’ll be a pretty memorable day regardless of the venue.
