Slim Shady Faces Off Against Marshall Mathers In Mock Interview

While there’s never been a doubt that Eminem is one of the best rappers of his generation, questions have certainly been raised of his waning influence in recent years.

Now 51 years old, Marshall Mathers is no longer at the forefront of popular culture — which makes sense considering that rap is largely a young man’s game, despite how much worse the genre seemingly gets (big millennial energy, I know).

His recent concept album The Death of Slim Shady, however, has briefly returned the legendary rapper to the forefront of pop culture thanks to the incredible conceit at the center of the record: Eminem finally killing his alter-ego Slim Shady.

That concept was best illustrated in the music video for the album’s debut single “Houdini,” which both paid homage to the “Without Me” music video and saw the two alter-egos of Eminem literally square off.

In the latest genius escalation of the idea, Marshall Mathers and Slim Shady did a sit-down for Complex that saw the pair throw hilarious barbs at each other for over 10 straight minutes.

One of the most viral moments of the video sees Em’s Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde criticizing each other’s respective music, with Mathers boasting that he wrote “Stan” and “Love the Way You Lie.”

After sarcastically clapping for a bit, Slim Shady retorts by saying, “Congratulations, you wrote the national anthem for stalkers and domestic abusers.”

Mathers then follows that up with what I find to be the funniest moment in the massively viral clip (almost 10 million views on Twitter at the time of this writing), retorting “Why do I gotta sit here and take this from the motherf—– who wrote ‘Fack’?!”
