Actress and model Shehnaaz Gill is giving fans and followers a glimpse at what her daily routine looks like. Gill, 31, shared a video of herself going through the motions on a typical day, including a segment where she is doing a yoga workout while wearing black shorts and a matching sports bra. “What I eat in a day! My most requested video,” she captioned the post. Here’s how Gill lost weight during the pandemic lockdowns, and what her health and wellness routine looks like.
Gill focused on getting as much protein into her diet as possible. “It wasn’t like I did something different in my diet,” she told Shetty. “I consumed the same diet but reduced my portion size. After waking up, I drink tea and turmeric water. Now I start my day by drinking apple cider vinegar water. For breakfast, I sometimes eat green grams, dosa or a fenugreek paratha. I consume a high-protein breakfast. My 70 per cent focus has been towards my diet.”
Gill loves spending time in nature, especially by the water. “Like all forms of exercise, hiking is one of the best ways to lose weight and is a method of stabilizing cholesterol levels,” says the American Hiking Society. “On average, you burn 100 calories for every mile you walk.”
Gill drinks a lot of water throughout the day. “To make the water tasty, I add strawberries and cucumber to it and drink it all day,” she told Shetty. “It is also very important for your skin. You can lose weight effectively even while staying at home. If you aren’t allowed to go outside, then walk around in the house.”
Gill says portion size is key to when she wants to lose weight. “Trust me, I went in for a simple reduction in my eating habits,” she told India.com. “You can say that I cut off my non-vegetarian food, chocolates and ice cream and nothing else. But besides that, let me explain how I ate because therein lies the catch. Every day, I ate just one or two things. I wouldn’t stuff too much variety in my daily consumption of food. For example, if I ate dal and moong for lunch, I would eat the same for dinner. And I reduced the portions. If I was hungry for two rotis, I ate only one. Mann maarke khati thi (I would suppress my feeling of hunger and eat). And it started working.”
Gill used the pandemic lockdowns as the perfect time to get in shape. “By the time I finished Bigg Boss, the lockdown had started,” she told Shilpa Shetty on her Shape of You show. So, in the lockdown, I thought, ‘Why not do something new?’ so that when people see me, they will be like, ‘Is that Shehnaaz?'”
