With classes underway at most colleges and universities across the United States, sorority rush is either in full swing or already over. Colorado will get things started on Wednesday but Chi Omega got ahead of the game by pandering to Shedeur Sanders on TikTok.
It was a brilliant strategy that goes pretty hard, if we’re being honest.
‘RushTok,’ for those who have been living under a rock, skyrocketed in popularity over the last few years— especially at Alabama. There are two sides: active members and potential new members.
On one end, PNMs document what they are wearing on each day of recruitment.
Some of their outfits (including jewlery) total more than $20,000. Seriously.
On the other end of RushTok, sororities try to prop themselves up over others by going viral on social media during work week. They do all kinds of different choreographed dances, skits and stunts.
Here’s Tennessee:
Arizona State:
Georgia Southern:
Even small schools like Chapman University:
You get the idea. It’s a very, very big deal. Every house on the row wants to put out the best content. More views creates more interest, which directly correlates to more PNMs!
Chi Omega in Boulder zigged when everybody else zagged and it played in their favor. They went super viral.
Just for example, this is what Theta is up to:
Meanwhile, Chi-O broke out their finest (imaginary) watches and hit ‘the Shedeur’ while jamming out to Sanders’ rap song on a fisheye lens. The video has accrued more than half a million views on TikTok in three days and that does not include the clicks from X or Instagram.
Colorado’s starting quarterback also posted @hattiemholmes’ video to Reels on Instagram, which racked up millions of views on its own. Needless to say, Chi Omega went stupid viral right before recruitment.
Even though its origin is questionable, the watch celebration has become a staple in college football. And now it is a staple in sorority rush!
