Shane Gillis has become one of the most popular comedians in the world over the last year or two, and as a result, is enjoying the life of an A-list celebrity.
Shane Gillis, as only he can, recently detailed one of those A-lister experiences as he recalled meeting New York Yankees All-Star outfielder Aaron Judge, whom Gillis said is probably the best player in all of Major League Baseball.
“Yo, I saw Aaron Judge. He’s huge. He’s the best, probably the best player in baseball,” Gillis said on a recent episode of Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast.
“That was the most nervous I’ve been meeting someone I couldn’t believe how star-struck (I was]). He saw me during batting practice. He was like, “What’s up? I’m coming over there.” And I was like, “ Oh, f—, he’s gonna come over here.” Then, he came over, and I was like, “How are you? It was so bad.”
Gillis might be accurate in his assessment that Judge is the best player in baseball — other options would be Shohei Ohtani, Ronald Acuña Jr., Juan Soto, or Mookie Betts — as the 32-year-old is a six-time All-Star and a former MVP. He’s also been named the AL Rookie of the Year and has been name to two All-MLB first teams.
For his career, which began with his rookie season in 2016, Judge is averaging .286 at the plate with 973 hits, 298 home runs, and 675 RBIs. This season, Judge is averaging .322 with 41 home runs (both stats as of August 6, 2024).
Despite his personal success, however, the Yankees have yet to appear in a World Series during his time with the team.
Earlier this year, Gillis’ first-ever scripted series Tires premiered on Netflix and was renewed for a second season. Last year, he also had his comedy special Shane Gillis: Beautiful Dogs premiere on the popular streaming service.
