One of the funniest aspects of Larry David’s beloved HBO comedy Curb Your Enthusiasm was the various celebrities he would recruit — either playing extreme versions of themselves or original characters — to essentially show up on set and berate him. And Seth Rogen’s upcoming AppleTV+ series The Studio seems to be tapping into that same vein of comedy.
Unlike Curb Your Enthusiasm, however, Seth Rogen is not playing himself in The Studio, but rather, the head of a fictional movie studio called Continental Studios. What it does have in common with Curb, however, is that Rogen has seemingly recruited a bevy of A-list actors to appear in the series, many of which seem to be quite angry with Rogen’s character.
In this minute-long teaser trailer alone, you’ve got Martin Scorsese calling him “talentless and spineless,” Kathryn Hahn angrily yelling “What is wrong with you?”, Zac Efron telling him “no one likes you,” Charlize Theron telling him to “get the f— out of here,” and Ron Howard throwing his baseball cap at him. Anthony Mackie — who, alongside Efron and Theron, are two of Rogen’s former co-stars, also appears in the teaser trailer.
Here is the official trailer for The Studio, via AppleTV+. The series hails from Rogen and his longtime collaborator Evan Goldberg.
In The Studio, Rogen stars as the newly appointed head of a movie studio, Continental Studios. Desperate for the approval of celebrities, he and his team of executives at Continental Studios must juggle corporate demands with creative ambitions as they try to keep movies alive and relevant. The Studio assembles a star-studded ensemble cast led by Catherine O’Hara, Kathryn Hahn, Ike Barinholtz, Chase Sui Wonders, Bryan Cranston, Keyla Monterroso Mejia, and Dewayne Perkins.
The Studio will premiere on AppleTV+ on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, and will run through May 21.
