THREE decades after his appearance in Scream, one actor has confirmed his return to the hit film franchise.
The likes of David Arquette, Courteney Cox and Drew Barrymore starred in the first slasher hit back in 1996.
Also amongst the original cast was Matthew Lillard who starred as Stu Macher.
Fans adored his portrayal of the eccentric and clumsy boyfriend of Rose McGowan‘s character, Tatum.
He is also the best friend of horror film fan, Billy Loomis – who was played by Skeet Ulrich.
The 55-year-old actor made an appearance at MegaCon in Orlando, where he confirmed that he will once again appear in the franchise.
At the Orange County Convention Center, Matthew was joined by his former co-star Skeet, also 55, for a special panel.
Lillard couldn’t help but address his upcoming comeback, as he remarked: “I’ve been asked literally 1,000 times a day since the first movie ended if I’m coming back.
“And I’m happy to report I am,” before he joked: “I come back as a fairy godmother. It’s gonna slay.”
Although he made a sarcastic comment about his role in the next film, Skeet admitted that this had been something Matthew had wanted to do for a long time.
He said: “Matt called me and told me when word came down, and I was so ecstatic for him because anybody who’s been to one of these or knows him or has followed him knows how much he has wanted that, so I’m very happy.”
The actor previously teased his return in a cryptic Instagram post at the end of January.
He posted a dark and slightly creepy video of a mysterious hand writing a message on a piece of paper.
The note read: “My mom and dad are gonna be soo mad at me!!” in a nod to the iconic line from his character in the original 1996 film.
His last appearance in the franchise came in 1997 as he starred in the slasher sequel.
However, he did not return to his role as he only made a cameo during the party scene as an uncredited extra.

Who starred in the original hit slasher film?
In 2000, he was due to reprise the role of Stu Macher in the third film of the series.
However, plans changed when the movie underwent rewrites following the Columbine High School massacre in 1999.
