In 2003, Scarlett Johansson made everyone fall in love with her acting and charm with the films Lost in Translation and Girl With a Pearl Earring. The actress was just 17 when she shot for both movies. But she brings a lot of maturity and allure to her characters, Charlotte and Griet, respectively. It was these two movies that also gave a major push to her acting career.

When both the movies were released, the critics and fans praised the Avengers: Endgame actress for her exemplary performances. There was also buzz going around that Scarlett Johansson might get nominated for the Oscars that year. However, when the actress was asked about the same back then, she thought the Academy Award talks were strange.

In an interview with People, Scarlett Johansson was asked about her thoughts on the Oscar talk going around for her 2003 films and performances. The actress said, “Um, yeah, it is kind of strange. It’s kind of fun. It would be so unreal, that whole thing, that I don’t really think about it. It would be incredible to be recognized – it always is when you work hard at something. People buy movie tickets for something you’ve done. That’s a reward right there.”

In Sofia Coppola’s Lost in Translation, Scarlett stars alongside Bill Murray. Girl With a Pearl Earring, directed by Peter Webber, also stars Colin Firth and Tom Wilkinson.

Scarlett Johansson was also asked what she would do during the 2004 Oscar night. The Marvel actress shared that someone complimented one of her dresses and said she should wear it for the awards that year. But Johansson said she plans to eat Chinese food with her dad and watch the award ceremony. She added that a person cannot simply attend the Oscars ceremony as the Academy needs to send an invitation.

Despite receiving praise for her performances, Scarlett Johansson was not nominated for any category in 2004. However, in 2020, she received two major nominations. The Black Widow star was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Jojo Rabbit and Best Actress for her role in Marriage Story. Unfortunately, she did not win in either category. Actress Laura Dern won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Marriage Story. On the other hand, Renee Zellweger won the Best Actress Award for her performance in Judy performance.
