Neve Campbell Back for Scream 7, Kevin Williamson Directing

Neve Campbell has revealed she is returning as Sidney Prescott for Scream 7. What’s more, franchise creator Kevin Williamson will be at the helm to direct a Scream film for the first time.

“Sidney Prescott is coming back!!!! It’s always been such a blast and an honor to get to play Sidney in the Scream movies,” Campbell wrote on Instagram. “My appreciation for these films and for what they have meant to me, has never waned. I’m very happy and proud to say I’ve been asked, in the most respectful way, to bring Sidney back to the screen and I couldn’t be more thrilled!!!”

Campbell continued by revealing that she’s “dreamt for many years of how amazing it would be to make one of these movies with Kevin Williamson at the helm.” Now, she’s gotten her wish.

In his own Instagram post, Williamson added, “It’s been nearly 30 years since my very first script, Scream, was directed by the legendary Wes Craven. I never would have predicted what it would become. Or that I would be directing the seventh installment of the franchise.”

Williamson will be directing Scream 7 from Guy Busick’s script. Busick is taking over the reins from James Vanderbilt, his co-writer on the last two Scream films.

After 2022’s Scream breathed new life into the franchise, Campbell turned down a lowball offer and did not appear in Scream VI. In recent months, the latest film has been through numerous changes.

Most recently, previously attached director Christopher Landon exited Scream 7 in the wake of star Melissa Barrera’s firing over her vocal support of Palestine and co-star Jenna Ortega’s decision to not return.
