Netflix is no stranger to The Sphere in Las Vegas. However, the streaming service took things to the next level for the roll out of its newest blockbuster film earlier this week!
Zack Snyder’s new sci-fi epic, Rebel Moon: Part One- A Child of Fire, was officially released on Thursday night. Netflix paid big bucks to take over the world’s most viral entertainment venue at The Venetian to coincide with the premiere.
The massive glowing ball of LED lights turned into an advertisement for the Star Wars-like franchise starter. JC-1435, known more simply as Jimmy, is a sentient robot character in Rebel Moon that defended a since-slain king as part of the Mechanics Miltarium centuries ago.
Jimmy was prominently displayed on the Sphere’s as part of the campaign. He (it?) appeared on the massive outdoor screen and took survey of the city before reaching out his mechanical hand to the passersby below.
While the graphic display was pretty cool on its own, Netflix went all-out. It accompanied the Rebel Moon promo with a drone show! 580,000 square feet of glowing LED lights were joined by a fleet of drones that flew around the Sphere. Some of them lit up like stars. Others spelled the film’s title.
It is not cheap to advertise on the Sphere. The rates are out of this world!
Netflix clearly believes in the Rebel Moon franchise enough to run an ad on the venue. It also made sure that all eyes were turned that way with the drone show.
Zach Snyder, who directed the film from a script he co-wrote with Shay Hatten and Kurt Johnstad, loved what he saw! Anyone who walked by the Sphere on Thursday did too. Netflix did a great job to differentiate itself from other marketing campaigns in Vegas!
