Live sports is coming to Netflix.
Is a seismic deal valued at $5 billion dollars, Netflix has acquired the rights to exclusively air WWE’s Monday Night Raw beginning in January 2025, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
As part of the deal, Netflix will also become the exclusive content home of WWE outside of the US, airing live shows and premium events like Wrestlemania, as well as documentaries and original series. In the US, premium WWE events will remain on Peacock — at least for now.
Netflix will air Raw live in the US, Canada, U.K., and Latin America, 52 weeks per year, with additional territories to be added in the future. The move to Netflix means that Raw will no longer be available on linear TV via its longtime home at USA Network.
Netflix has long expressed an interest in adding live events to its content offerings. The streamer previously experimented with the concept by airing a live standup special from Chris Rock, as well as a live celebrity golf tournament. However, the WWE deal is easily the company’s most significant move yet, and suggests Netflix may now have its sights set on adding other major sporting events.
