A.J. Langer‘s husband, Charles Courtenay, seemingly wants to work on their marriage.
According to new court documents obtained by The Blast, Courtenay is asking the court to dismiss his earlier request for the dissolution of his marriage from the “My So-Called Life” star.
Charles Courtenay Has Backtracked His Decision To Divorce A.J. Langer
In an unexpected move, Courtenay is requesting that the Los Angeles County Courts dismiss his earlier divorce application “without prejudice.”
This means that the British national can refile a divorce case again at a later time without being barred by the previous dismissal.
Emphasizing the comprehensive nature of the legal action being taken, he is asking that the “Entire action of all parties and all causes of action” be dismissed.
The dismissal request, submitted on February 23, comes four months after The Blast obtained court records proving Courtenay filed for divorce.
In those papers, he cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for ending the marriage, adding that he and Langer split on September 30, 2023, after being together for 19 years and five months.
As for the two children they share, Courtenay requested joint custody, leading many to believe that spousal and child support would be essential matters in the divorce proceedings.
Typically, after a lengthy marriage like Courtenay and Langer’s, the couple would divide their assets and debts equally. However, the Earl of Devon’s lawyers asserted that he had not fully assessed his separate property assets and debts at the time.
Inside The Decades-Long Relationship Of Langer & Courtenay
Long before divorce talks rocked their union, the couple shared details about their relationship during an interview. Revealing that she and Courtenay first met in a Las Vegas bar at a bachelorette party in 2002, Langer recounted:
“We locked eyes and exchanged smiles. His kilt caught my attention. But it was his smile that won me over.”
Courtenay added, “We instantly got on like a house on fire. We went out to a nightclub, I wasn’t allowed in because I was wearing a skirt! So we spent a bit of time walking around the streets.”
During their walk, they “got to know each other really, really well,” although Courtenay neglected to mention he came from a royal family to Langer. In the “Baywatch” actress’ words:
“I had no idea about the castle or titles or anything until he drove me up the driveway months into our relationship – which was good ’cause I wouldn’t have known what to do with that information anyway.”
In fact, Langer foresaw that their relationship would not progress beyond being a “ridiculous romantic fling.” However, after months of exchanging letters and going on a date in New York, she and Courtenay were both invited to the latter’s friend’s wedding in the UK.
It was during this trip that she discovered Courtenay’s true identity. He would later confess that not disclosing his ancestral home was intentional, influenced by his father, Hugh, who had done the same thing.
Despite Langer’s family’s initial doubts about her relationship, notably due to her man’s family living in a “patriarchy,” while she identified as a “Jewish feminist,” the couple forged on and walked down the aisle.
After tying the knot, the lovebirds returned to California, where they lived for almost a decade. During this time, the Ohio native pursued her acting career while her husband worked at a law firm.
With two children in tow, they eventually returned to the UK due to Hugh’s declining health and settled into Powderham Castle.
