My bronzed glow is thanks to a DIY fake tan – I refuse to buy the bottled stuff when the result is this good

If you want a serious glow up, this summer you might want to raid your kitchen

SUMMER is almost here, so many of us are looking forward to wearing shorts and skirts again.

If your legs are a little pale though, one woman has come up with a ‘genius’ way to self-tan without using any harsh chemicals.

Even if you only have a slight interest in beauty, you’ve probably seen at least one of Kate’s viral videos before.

Better known as @yourmategingerkate on TikTok, this content creator is known for her all-natural beauty secrets and slightly sweary explanations.

Her latest video was no different, with the influencer claiming that her DIY fake tan took her from pale and interesting to a ‘hot, bronzed ginger’.

Putting her expertise to the test, she decided to create the recipe from scratch and shared with fans just how easy it was to make.

In fact, you’ll only need two teabags to get started.

Adding them to half a mug of boiling water, the beauty guru let them brew for a couple of minutes and showed how dark the tea was to her fans.

Once this was done, the influencer then added two tablespoons of henna powder and mixed it until she had a slightly liquid consistency.

However, she used a very specific version of the plant-based dye.

“This is the auburn one that I use for my hair,” she explained, adding: “This is what gave me the idea for the fake tan.”

After letting the mixture cool, Kate removed the teabags and raided her pantry for one more item: a large tablespoon of melted coconut oil.

To make sure she got a smooth consistency, the content creator gave the DIY fake tan a quick whizz with her stick blender.

If you don’t have one of these at home, don’t despair as we are sure a regular blend would work just as well for this beauty hack.

Then came the moment of truth and it was time to test out the homemade product.

Like you would with a regular fake tan, the influencer wore a plain tank top and gloves to stop the fake tan from staining everything.

Smearing a generous amount on her face and chest, Kate looked more like she’d been tangoed after applying the homemade mix.

However, she was determined to trust the process.

Leaving it on her skin for half an hour, she told fans: “I’m just  going to take it down further than my neckline but obviously if this works, I’ll be putting it everywhere.”

Despite her initial concerns though, her skin glowed once she’d rinsed off the DIY tan.

“I can’t believe that this worked,” she gushed, adding: “I’ve outdone myself…it’s not often you see a hot bronzed ginger.”

Comparing how pale the rest of her body was to her face, it was clear that the homemade beauty item was a winner.

And with henna starting from as little as £9.99 on Amazon, she’ll be saving a small fortune on fake tan too.

If only every aspect of our beauty routine was this easy.
