The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have a documentary in the works that will be an “at-home” style type of series.

According to PageSix, the project is still in its early stage, and nothing has been set in stone yet. Netflix chiefs reportedly want the show out by the end of this year, but the Markle and Harry would rather have it released next year, 2023.

One of the producers (via PageSix) who is in the know said, “The timing is still being discussed, things are up in the air.”

The upcoming show also comes on the heels of the discovery, that Netflix had silently canceled Markle’s animated series, “Pearl.”

According to Deadline, Netflix decided to cancel “Pearl,” another project and animation by Markle, without an official announcement. Markle created the series under Archewell Productions, the production company of the fan-favorite couple, Markle and Prince Harry.

The company concluded a deal with Netflix in September 2020, which was supposed to last several years. “Pearl” was also intended to be the first animated series of the company and was still developing when it was canceled. Deadline noted that the show was canceled alongside two animated shows on the streaming site.

However, this doesn’t ruin the relationship between the two companies as they remain committed to developing other projects together in the future. According to a Netflix rep, Netflix looks forward to upcoming projects with Archewell.

Other projects still in development by Archewell included The Heart Of Invictus, a series that focused on the competitors of the Invictus Games. This is particularly exciting for fans because the event was headed by Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex.

Netflix Lost Many Fans

In April, Insider reported that the popular streaming site, Netflix, had experienced some setbacks during the first quarter of the year, and things could possibly get worse from there. The platform lost over 200,000 subscribers between January and March and will probably lose more in the coming months.

The sudden loss of subscribers affected the company’s stock price so much that it lost over 35% of its value in a very short time. This was very surprising to fans since the last time Netflix reported a streaming loss was a decade ago, in 2011.

The company lost over 800,000 customers overnight, and the company’s stock price was affected by 80%. The loss is a very tough time for the streaming site, so they decided to cut down on spending.

Netflix Is ‘Pulling Back’

In a pre-recorded interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the chief financial officer (CFO) Spencer Neumann commented on the setback. He explained that Netflix would be “pulling back” on some spending over the next couple of years to increase growth.

Their pulling back plan meant scrapping some shows, including Markle’s “Pearl.” Neumann said, “We’re pulling back on some of our spend growth across both content and non-content spend.” He also revealed that the company blamed sharing of passwords for accounts and competition from other platforms for its setback.

He continued, “We’re trying to be smart about it and prudent in terms of pulling back on some of that spend growth to reflect the realities of the revenue growth of the business.” An undisclosed number of employees were also reportedly laid back from the company.

Archewell Productions officially announced the animated series on its website in July 2021. They also provided a summary of the series on the site. “Pearl” was about a 12-year-old adventurous and brave girl, a character inspired by some influential women of the past.

A source revealed how excited Markle was for her series and shared a statement she made. Markle said, “Like many girls her age, our heroine Pearl is on a journey of self-discovery as she tries to overcome life’s daily challenges.”

“I’m thrilled that Archewell Productions, partnered with the powerhouse platform of Netflix, and these incredible producers, will together bring you this new animated series, which celebrates extraordinary women throughout history.”

She also added that she and David Furnish were “eager to bring this special series to light” and, at the time, delighted to announce it to the public.
