The Marvel Cinematic Universe is largely expected to enter a truly new era following the release of its two new Avengers movies in the coming years, and recent rumors indicate that the supernatural superhero group of the Midnight Sons could be a part of it.

According to alleged industry insider DanielRPK, Marvel Studios is developing an adaptation of Midnight Sons that would see Ghost Rider/Johnny Blaze as the leader of the team. There have been ongoing rumors that the Ghost Rider character could make its MCU debut in one of the two upcoming Avengers movies — Avengers: Doomsday in 2026 and Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027.

Of all the various scoopers out there, this nugget comes from one of the more reliable ones — still, it should be taken with a relative grain of salt. On one hand, Marvel Studios has likely always been kicking around Midnight Sons. On the other, nothing has been officially reported or announced.

While Thunderbolts has proven to be another disappointment for Marvel Studios, its critical reception suggests that — beyond just taking the time and care to make a legitimately good standalone movie and not just a cog in a cinematic machine — fans are partial to untraditionally heroic team-up films. Midnight Sons also features a far more compelling group of characters, just as Doctor Strange, Blade, Moon Knight, Ghost Rider, Punisher and even Wolverine.

Next up for the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be The Fantastic Four, First Steps, which is the first movie in the franchise’s sixth “phase.” Starring Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, John Malkovich, Julia Garner, Paul Walter Hauser, and Ralph Ineson, The Fantastic Four: First Steps will be released in movie theaters in the United States on Friday, July 25.
