One of the most iconic NBA teams, the LA Lakers, has been sold for $10 billion in a record-breaking sale.
Back in 1979, Jerry Buss and the rest of his family took over the Lakers and have helped mold it into one of the most iconic NBA teams in the league.
Over the years, it’s been the home of some of the most recognizable names ever, including Shaq, Kobe Bryant, Magic Johnson, and Lebron James.
On Wednesday, June 19, the family entered into an agreement to sell the Lakers for a record-breaking amount of money.
Lakers sold for $10 Billion
According to Yahoo Sports, the owners of the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team purchased the Lakers for a staggering $10,000,000,000.
This makes the deal the largest sports franchise sale ever recorded, which seems fitting for one of the world’s most legendary teams.
Other high-dollar sales include the $6.1 billion that was paid for the Boston Celtics earlier in 2025 and the $6.05 billion that exchanged hands for the NFL’s Washington Commanders back in 2023.
Here are the top 10 most expensive sales of American sports franchises according to Sports Illustrated:
