Lil Uzi Vert took a compassionate approach to a stage crasher at Outside Lands this weekend, giving the fan a hug, taking a selfie, and making sure that the security guards didn’t kick his ass to all the way to the medical tent.
Stage crashing has become the summer’s most popular way to get hurt. Last month at Openair Frauenfeld, a fan who rushed the stage during a performance by Roddy Ricch got tackled and kicked, while a man who bum rushed Lil Baby found himself thrown from the stage into the front row barricade. Then Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello got tackled by a security guard who was trying to take down an audience member, and last week a fan who hopped on the stage during Show Me the Body’s set found himself shoved into the speakers.
Lil Uzi Vert, who recently changed their preferred pronouns to they/them, took a tact that protected the stage crasher while perhaps making future incidents more likely. In fan footage from social media, he’s heard repeating, “Hold up,” to security guards who are holding back the stage crasher. The rapper then talked to the visibly inebriated fan, saying, “I love you, too, I love you, too,” and asking if he had a phone. After a selfie, the rapper returned the fan’s hug. He can also be seen talking to security, seemingly attempting to lower the temperature. Check out footage of the incident below.
Last month, the onetime Sultan of Soundcloud released the Soundcloud exclusive Red and White EP, though the platform may have had as much to do with uncleared samples as nostalgia.
