Letterkenny’s Michelle Mylett Talks Katy And Wayne’s Childhood

Letterkenny interview with Michelle Mylett and Dylan Playfair

BroBible

With the final season of Letterkenny airing on Hulu, BroBible caught up with a few of the cast members to discuss the most unanswered Letterkenny questions, which episode(s) most deserve a movie spin-off, fan requests on Cameo, and more.

I was able to speak with Michelle Mylett (Katy) and Dylan Playfair (Reilly) for one interview and K. Trevor Wilson (Squirrely Dan) for a second. I’ve included large portions of each interview transcribed below along with the YouTube videos for all to enjoy.

The Most Asked Letterkenny Question About Wayne And Katy’s Past

Cass: “Can you say whether or not Wayne and Katy grew up Mennonite because a lot of fans think they grew up Mennonite?”

Michelle Mylett: “That’s an interesting theory… Yeah… I’ve thought about that too, Wayne and Katy’s past and why they live together… Where did they get this house? Where did they get the money for the farm? Do they have parents?”

“Jared (Keeso) and I talked about it a little bit. He’s always left it (up in the air). But I think there’s a potential that they had a pretty challenging upbringing. I’ve thought maybe they were part of the foster system and didn’t really have anyone except for each other… Went through some intense times and that’s part of the reason why they stay so close. Yeah, so I’m not really sure. The Mennonite theory I’ve heard as well though.”

Which episode is most-deserving of a spinoff?

Cass: “Looking back, which one episode would you love, years from now, to get together and do a movie spin-off of if you had to extend one of the episodes?”

Dylan Playfair: “Ohhh, maybe ‘Super Soft Birthday’ (S1E2).”

Michelle Mylett: “Spelling Bee’s fun… I mean really, really, really selfishly and I don’t know exactly which episode but any of the episodes where the McMurray’s are talking about their vacations. I would like for the cast of Letterkenny to do a special at an all-inclusive. Or maybe there’s a destination wedding. I think that could be fun.”

Cass: “If you could’ve played another character on the show who would it have been?”

Michelle Mylett: “I would have loved to have played Roald.”

Dylan Playfair: “In another world… As much of a hockey player as I was raised, I spent my summers working on farms. So with shorter hair I could’ve pulled off some Wayne. The low hanging fruit is Jonesy but you don’t want that answer. I could’ve been Wayne.”

Cass: “Michelle, you’re a dog person, what was the most memorable dog that you worked with on set?”

Michelle Mylett: “Gus. Gus. Gus meant a lot to us as Jared’s dog. He passed away but I had some beautiful times with Gus on camera and then I took care of him a few times. Smelly, smelly Gus, but Gus.”

The Cast Of ‘Letterkenny’ Gets Unique Requests On Cameo

Cass: “In recent years, what’s the most memorable request you’ve gotten on Cameo?”

Dylan Playfair: “Oh, you wanna go like heartstrings or?”

Cass: “Whatever one was the first to jump into your mind.”

Dylan Playfair: “I’ve had a couple people battling incurable diseases that have found solace in Letterkenny and want some laughs on the way out which is so heavy but also so humbling. And I’ve had quite a few family members (of those) serving overseas that their friends back home want to send them a pick-me-up.”

“Those stand out above the birthdays and the happy holidays. It’s something I’m glad I’ve been able to be a part of because gone are the days of fan mail. You know. I think that’s the new medium for fan interaction.”

K. Trevor Wilson On The Essence Of Squirrely Dan

Cass: “Looking back, what episode best captures the essence of Squirrely Dan?”

K. Trevor Wilson: “In the early seasons, I think the back-and-forth on ‘Super Soft Birthday’… Some of the stuff in MoDeans in Season 1 were really good.”

“I think Dan really started stepping into his own during the Catch Scene (season 2)… We started finding out a bit more about Dan. He was a constantly evolving character and that’s what made him so much fun to play. He was a role written for someone else that I got to step in and make my own. It’s bittersweet that Letterkenny is over after all these years, it was one of the best.”

Cass: “If you could have played any other character on the show who would it have been, if that role (of Dan) was written for someone else?”

K. Trevor Wilson: “I… I don’t know if I could have done anyone’s job better than them. But there’s a lot of roles I would have loved to have tried. I think I could have had fun with Noah Dyck. Coach always had some great lines.”

“I really don’t know if I could’ve… The people, that’s what made the show work so well is the people who were cast in those roles were absolutely perfect for those parts.”

Cass: “When a friend asks you for help, you help them (from the show)…Who on the cast would you call right now if you were in a pinch?”

K. Trevor Wilson: “Depends on what kind of a pinch I’m in. If it was hockey-related, probably Dylan Playfair. I still talk to Jared Keeso regularly… Depending on the situation, I feel like I could call any of them. If I needed to know how to get around Tokyo, Japan I could call Michelle Mylett because she used to live there, y’know.”
