James Gunn knows how to make superheroes or DC fans happy. Every now and then, he shares exciting updates about his upcoming film. On February 29, Gunn revealed that Superman: Legacy is now titled Superman. The big update came on the superhero’s birthday (as per the comics). The film stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl and others.

The Guardians of the Galaxy director didn’t just stop at revealing the new movie title. He also treated fans with a glimpse of his superhero’s new costume. James’ picture highlights the logo design on the costume, which is different from everything we have seen before.

On his Instagram page, the director wrote, “Overjoyed to be announcing the start of principal photography on SUPERMAN today, February 29, which just so happens to be – coincidentally and unplanned – Superman’s birthday. When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film Superman: Legacy. By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was SUPERMAN. Making our way to you July 2025.”

Superman Movie New Costume Details

From the picture, it looks like David Corenswet’s Clark Kent will wear a light blue costume. It isn’t a plain suit, as we see textures on it. What caught our eyes was the logo printed on the suit. The logo has yellow or golden borders and a red background. The ‘S’ shape is different from the proper ‘S’ we have seen Superman actors wear. The ‘S’ is yellow/golden. If you remember, Henry Cavill’s ‘S’ logo is printed in red against a yellow shield background in Man of Steel.

James Gunn’s Superman will be based on the Kingdom Come version of DC Comics, written by Alex Ross and Mark Waid. The story features an ageing Clark Kent. So, it would be interesting to see how James brings this new story to the big screen.

Meanwhile, the DC movie also stars Skyler Gisondo, Sara Sampaio, María Gabriela De Faría, Nathan Fillion and Edi Gathegi. Last week, the Suicide Squad directly shared a happy selfie with the entire cast. The filming also begins. The David Corenswet starrer is slated to release in theatres on July 11, 2025.
