Kings of Leon have announced the forthcoming release of their 9th studio album, Can We Please Have Fun, out on May 10. As a preview of the impending drop, the multi-platinum rock band has shared their hard-charging lead single, “Mustang,” paired alongside an official music video. In support of the new set of music, the group has revealed an extensive 26-city tour, slated to begin on Aug. 14 at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas.
According to the official press release outlining Kings of Leon’s impending album, the set is described as evoking the essence of the title: cutting loose, attempting new ventures, and, of course, having fun. The 12-track collection was recorded at Nashville, Tenn.’s Dark Horse studio and produced with new collaborator Kid Harpoon.
“It was the most enjoyable record I’ve ever been a part of,” Caleb Followill says. “It’s like we allowed ourselves to be musically vulnerable,” brother Nathan adds. “I love it when a rock band is not embarrassed to admit that every song doesn’t have to be on 11.”
In tandem with the album announcement, the group released a list of tour dates, which will take them on the road beginning in late summer. “When you have a band, there’s a bond like no other, and when you have family, you have a bond like no other,” Caleb offered. “We have both of those things. I thought if we put all our energy toward something, who is gonna stop us? Who can stop us except us?”
