“Isn’t it wonderful?” Emma Stone asks in the final moments of the first Kinds of Kindness trailer. And for fans of the Oscar-winning Poor Things, the reunion of Emma Stone and Yorgo Lanthimos in Kinds of Kindness certainly is. But that’s not the only wonderful thing about it; the star and director are joined by Jesse Plemons and Willem Dafoe (among many other wonderful actors) to bring this tale to life. And if Kinds of Kindness‘ first trailer is anything to go by, we’re in for another excellenly absurd and emotional journey from Lanthimos, Stone, and company. You can check it out below.
What exactly is going on in Kinds of Kindness‘ trailer? Well, it’s hard to say for sure. We see a lot of images that pique our interest, though. Searchlight Pictures has shared an official synopsis for Kinds of Kindness alongside the trailer, and it might help put at least some of what we see into a bit of order.
The Kinds of Kindness synopsis shares:
KINDS OF KINDNESS is a triptych fable, following a man without choice who tries to take control of his own life; a policeman who is alarmed that his wife who was missing-at-sea has returned and seems a different person; and a woman determined to find a specific someone with a special ability, who is destined to become a prodigious spiritual leader.
The endless search for control, a missing woman returned, and possible supernatural abilities, it sounds like this movie has it all. What it also has is seeming cuddles between Jesse Plemons and Willem Dafoe, and that’s a stroke of genius on Yorgos Lanthimos’ part in our book. We’re going to need to see that more prominently featured in the next Kinds of Kindness trailer.
In addition to Stone, Plemons, and Dafoe, the Kinds of Kindness cast also stars Margaret Qualley, Hong Chau, Joe Alwyn, Mamoudou Athie, and Hunter Schafer. We accept this latest cinematic offering and can’t wait to see where all these surely absurd characters will go.
