On the latest episode of “Keanu Reeves being Keanu Reeves”, the beloved John Wick star has revealed he once gave psychedelic mushrooms to legendary director Francis Ford Coppola.

During a recent appearance on the Inside of You podcast, Reeves told the story of gifting Coppola with drugs while the pair were filming Francis Ford’s adaptation of Dracula in the early 1990s.

“So I gave Francis Ford Coppola [shrooms] once for his birthday,” Reeves began, which elicited a hilariously shocked reaction from the podcast host.

“While we were doing Dracula, I heard it was his birthday and I happened to have an eighth of some mushrooms, and so I gave them to him,” Reeves says before chuckling.

“He took them. I don’t wanna… he had a very nice birthday. He said he enjoyed them.”

Making Reeves’ story even funnier is that during that time he was also dating Francis Ford’s daughter Sofia Coppola, who would grow up to be an accomplished director in her own right with films such as The Virgin Suicides, Lost in Translation, Marie Antoinette, The Beguiled, and her latest project Priscilla.

Imagine, briefly, giving shrooms to your girlfriend’s father. Then imagine that guy being the dude who directed The Godfather — only Keanu Reeves, man.

In addition to Reeves as Jonathan Harker, Coppola’s 1992 adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula also stars Gary Oldman as Count Dracula, Winona Ryder as Mina Harker, Anthony Hopkins as Professor Abraham Van Helsing, Richard E. Grant as Dr. Jack Seward, Cary Elwes as Lord Arthur Holmwood, Monica Bellucci as Dracula’s Bride, and more.

Reeves will next be seen starring in Ballerina, the Ana de Armas-starring John Wick spinoff that is set to hit theaters in June.

The 58-year-old is also attached to star in projects directed by Jonah Hill (Outcome) and Aziz Ansari (Good Fortune). He and Constantine director Francis Lawrence are also developing a sequel to the 2005 cult classic.
