Drummer Kaz Rodriguez just joined a distinguished line of drummers to participate in Drumeo’s challenge where they have professional musicians listen to a song they’ve never heard before, but a version of the song without the drums, and then ask the drummer to play that song.

Will Ferrell’s twin brother Chad Smith from the Red Hot Chili Peppers went viral months ago by playing ‘The Kill’ from Thirty Seconds to Mars, Jared Leto’s band, and he absolutely crushed it. Other pro drummers have also brought their skills to the table and the Drumeo series racks up millions of views with music fans left awestruck by how talented these musicians are.

Kaz Rodriguez Plays Primus Drums On Song He’s Never Heard Before

At 00:36 they explain the challenge while he listens. At 6:13, Kaz Rodriguez begins to perform the song having never heard it with drums before:

First off, Primus sucks. And here’s a Rolling Stone article from 1991 explaining that if you don’t know what I mean.

Secondly, this might be the most difficult version of this challenge I’ve seen yet. Drumeo has picked some fast-paced tracks in the past but this is a beast of a different nature.

After seeing Primus for the first time, they became my barometer for talent in a band. Since then, any band with more than 3 people needs to be exponentially better than Primus, in my mind, for justifying having more members in the band than the three members of Primus (Drums, Bass, Guitar). What I’ve found over the years is Primus consistently puts out more complex and better music with just Drums, Bass, and Guitar than most bands do with 4+ members.

Anyway, here’s Chad Smith from the Red Hot Chili Peppers playing a song he’s never heard before like the video above:

Just an insanely talented drummer.
