On March 19, Umphrey’s McGee took the stage at Boise, Idaho’s Treefort Music Hall for the latest engagement in its expansive spring tour. Continuing its journey through the Northwest, the genre-defiant jam sextet kept things fresh with a surprise sit-in from Karina Rykman, who joined the band for a special cover of the fan-favorite “Night Nurse.”

The band kicked off its fifth Northwest show with the Similar Skin classic “Educated Guess,” followed by a medley of “Got Your Milk (Right Here)” and “Always October” and “It Doesn’t Matter.”  After “Walletsworth,” the band called Rykman to the stage to sub-in for bassist Ryan Stasik in the rhythm section of the cinematic, progressive Umphrey’s standard “Night Nurse.” The bassist and bandleader departed from the stage after this brief cameo, leaving Umphrey’s to close out its first set by merging “Nemo” and “Domino Theory.”

On the collaboration, Rykman, who had just arrived in Boise for a performance at the stacked Treefort Music Festival, shared, “Had a blast getting right off the [plane] and on to the stage with [Umphrey’s McGee] last night! Thanks so much for having me, you delightful lunatics.” Shortly following, the artist triumphantly reflected, “Let the record show I’ve now played bass with Phish, The Disco Biscuits, moe., and Umphrey’s McGee.”

Earlier this week, Umphrey’s McGee announced its summer tour, continuing its hefty spring run to keep the road warriors in the wind for seven straight months and a total of 61 concerts. After her festival. The group will perform again tonight at Garden City, Idaho’s Revolution Concert House & Event Center, then move on to a trio of California dates before jumping to a Midwest run.
