Jonathan Majors spoke to Good Morning America for his first interview since being found guilty of assault and harassment in December.
Majors said he was “shocked at the verdict,” which found Majors guilty of assaulting his then-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, inside of a SUV in March 2022. Furthermore, Majors maintained that he was not responsible for Jabbari’s injuries. When asked who was responsible, Majors responded, “I wish to god I knew. That would give clarity. That would give me some type of peace about it.”
“I’m an athlete. I’m a sportsman. I know my body. I know how it moves. I know my strength, or lack thereof, you know? None of that was employed on her,” Majors added.
Instead, Majors claimed that he was the victim.“I’m standing there, and the verdict comes down, I say, ‘How was that possible? Based off the evidence, based off the prosecution’s evidence, let alone our evidence, how was it possible?’” Majors said. “If you watch those videos and you reverse that, and you saw a Black man chasing a young white girl down the street, screaming, crying — that man is going to be shot and killed in the streets in New York City.”
The interview with Davis first aired on Good Morning America on Monday morning, with an extended version premiering on Monday night on Davis’ ABC News Live program Prime.
In a statement in response to Majors’ interview, Jabbari’s attorney Brittany Henderson said, “It is not at all surprising that Mr. Majors continues to take no accountability for his actions. His denigration of our jury system is not dissimilar from the above-the-law attitude that he has maintained throughout this legal process. The timing of these new statements demonstrates a clear lack of remorse for the actions for which he was found guilty and should make the sentencing decisions fairly easy for the Court.”
Following Majors’ guilty verdict, Marvel Entertainment was swift to drop him for his MCU role as Kang the Conqueror, doing so within an hour of the news breaking. Now, the character will either be recast or written out of the franchise entirely. After his arrest in March, Majors was also dropped by his talent manager and publicist, as well as several film projects.
Majors will be sentenced on February 6th, 2024. He faces up to a year in prison, but is expected to appeal any sentencing.
