Jimmy Kimmel’s stint as Oscars host over the weekend has resulted in backlash from multiple angles.
Not only did A-list celebrities such as Robert Downey Jr. and Emma Stone appear to roll their eyes at some of Kimmel’s jokes, but his comments about Killers the Flower Moon have ticked off movie fans in general, as well.
“When I went to see Killers the Flower Moon, I had my mail forwarded to the theater,” Kimmel joked during his opening monologue. “Killers of the Flower Moon is so long, in the time it takes you to watch it, you could drive to Oklahoma and solve the murders yourself.”
“There’s so many great movies that held audiences captive this year — and I mean that literally; your movies were too long this year. The average length of the top 10 movies was two hours and 23 minutes. That’s up 30 minutes from three years ago.”
Idk if Jimmy Kimmel should be giving notes on “how an Awards Show is supposed to go” when you made fun of real life Osage murders just to complain about a movie’s runtime https://t.co/txiN73nhLp

This year was the fourth time that Kimmel has hosted the Academy Awards, which shouldn’t be all that surprising considering that the network that broadcasts the ceremony, ABC, also owns his late-night show.
As mentioned above, Kimmel’s joke about Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things didn’t land well either, as cameras appeared to catch its star Emma Stone calling him a slur in response. Similarly, Robert Downey Jr. also looked a bit miffed when Kimmel made a crack about his infamous struggles with substance abuse.
Despite the fact that Killers the Flower Moon was nominated for 10 awards heading into the night, the Martin Scorsese-directed film walked away with zero wins.
With Killers the Flower Moon going 0-for-10, Scorsese’s last four narrative films (Killers of the Flower, The Irishman, Silence, and The Wolf of Wall Street), have now racked up 26 nominations and zero wins. This was also the third time that a film made by the legendary director has gone 0-for-10 at the Academy Awards.
Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer ultimately took home the most awards on the night as the film won in seven categories, including Best Picture, Director, Actor, Supporting Actor, Cinematography, Score, and Editing. The film was also nominated for Best Supporting Actress (Emily Blunt), Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Costume Design, Best Production Design, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, and Best Sound.
