Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones had a role on a recent episode of the Paramount+ series Landman and displayed surprisingly solid acting chops. A clip of Jones playing himself alongside characters played by Billy Bob Thorton and Jon Hamm has been going viral on social media.

The scene sees Jerry Jones, as himself, visiting Jon Hamm’s character Monty Miller, who is laid up in a hospital bed. With Billy Bob Thorton’s character Tommy Norris nearby, Jones delivers a heartfelt monologue about family.

Jones’ performance was so surprisingly competent that a clip of the scene has racked up over a million views on social media since the episode aired on Sunday, January 5 — which was also the final day of the Dallas Cowboys’ 2024 season, as they failed to make the playoffs.

Oddly enough, Jones’ comments after the Cowboys’ final game of the season were actually quite similar to his monologue on Landman, as they both touched on the idea of him buying the iconic NFL franchise for his children.

“No. Just no. I bought the team, I think the first thing to come out of my mouth — anybody here was at that press conference?” Jones said when asked about giving up him position as the team’s general manager, according to Saad Yousuf of The Athletic.

“Somebody asked, ‘Did you buy this for your kids?’ I said, ‘Hell no. I bought it for me.’ And I didn’t buy an investment. I bought an occupation, and I bought something I was going to do. I was 46 (years old). I bought something I was going to do for the rest of my life,” the 82 year old multi-billionaire continued.

“That’s what I’m doing. So, no. The facts are, since I have to decide where the money is spent, then you might as well cut all of the bullshit out. That’s who’s making the call anyways.”

Landman is one of many TV series from prolific writer Taylor Sheridan, the creator of Paramount Network’s hit series Yellowstone. Billy Bob Thorton stars in the series that’s “a modern tale of fortune seeking amongst roughnecks and billionaires in the world of oil set in the boomtowns of Texas.”

Since 2021 alone, Sheridan has created and written the shows 1883, Mayor of Kingstown, Tulsa King, 1923, Lioness, and Landman, all for Paramount+. Prior to his extensive television work, Sheridan had written acclaimed films such as Sicario (and its sequel), Hell or High Water, and Wind River.
