Much has been said about James Gunn’s upcoming film, Superman, which stars David Corenswet as the lead actor. The film will have multiple characters, including Clark Kent’s arch-nemesis Lex Luthor. But names like Brainiac, Mongul, and Ultraman were being speculated to be the film’s main villain. However, before it all escalated, Gunn took it upon himself to clarify the rumors and declare the main antagonist opposite Superman.
For the unversed, this will be the first movie to come out of the new and rebooted DCU after Peter Safran and James took over as co-heads. The film was announced in January last year, and a few months later, Corenswet was cast as Kal-El. Meanwhile, Rachel Brosnahan was cast as Lois Lane opposite David.
James Gunn took to his Threads account and put an end to all the rumors about Superman’s main villain. The X-Men: First Class actor Nicholas Hoult has been cast as Lex Luthor and will be the main villain in the upcoming DCU movie. Gunn said, “The primary protagonist of Superman is, shockingly, Superman. The main villain of Superman is, shockingly, Lex Luthor.”
Reacting to the rumors he added, “I don’t know where all the stuff is coming from that it’s something other than this. There so many stories coming out every day it’s difficult to deal with and everytime I strike something down I’m giving it attention. So, I’ll say again, don’t believe anything unless you see it HERE (& why would you want to know everything before the movie comes out anyway?).”
James Gunn’s Superman has several superheroes, including Supergirl, played by House of the Dragon star Milly Alcock. Gunn also revealed that they completed around 18% of filming in response to a fan expressing their excitement to see an actual photo of his superhero version. He said, “And I’m almost ready to show it to you (even though we’re probably only 18% or so through it).”
The film Superman is slated to hit the screens in 2025.
