Former New York Knicks player Iman Shumpert and musician/dancer Teyana Taylor spent nearly a decade in wedded bliss. The pair had their first child, Junie, in 2015 and a second, Rue, in 2020. But now the two are divorced, as of last year, and Shumpert believes that his now ex-wife belongs in prison.

Mark Elibert of Complex reports that Shumpert, as part of an ongoing court battle between the two, filed a court motion asking for Teyana Taylor to be found in criminal contempt of court and sent to jail. Shumpert’s legal team alleges that Taylor violated the terms of their divorce.

Specifically, Shumpert claims that Taylor “willfully and contemptuously exposed and broadcast specific provisions of the final judgment decree of divorce and related provisions, recklessly disregarding the financial circumstances, privacy, safety, and security of the parties and their minor children.”

But that’s not all. The filing then went into detail with allegations regarding Taylor verbally abusing Shumpert and deriding him in front of their children.

“For example, in the presence of the children, [Teyana] has shouted crude and inflammatory racial insults at [Iman],” the motion states. “Such insults and criticism of [Iman] have caused the children to unjustly suffer stress and worry, unfairly placing the children in the self-imposed position of peacemaker between their parents.”

Now, it’s important to note that these are only allegations. And just last week, Taylor filed a similar motion to find Shumpert in contempt and sought to have him thrown in jail for 20 days as well. Although she later claimed she doesn’t want Shumpert to be incarcerated.

Sadly, these types of things are uncommon during and after divorce proceedings. And ultimately, it’s the children who normally suffer the most from them. Hopefully the two can eventually find some sort of common ground in the near future.
